Exported to the USA when new, this TR3 returned to England in 1989 when the engine was rebuilt, the bodywork fettled and the car converted to right hand drive. Between 1989 and 2016 the car covered only 5000 miles and, although the chassis and bodywork remained excellent, the engine went well for a while and then succumbed: lack of any real use had caused rust to develop in (many) internal nooks and crannies. So much for “low mileage”!
An engine rebuild by TR Enterprises, which included a rebore to 89mm and a stage 2 head, has provided a fast road engine (136 bhp) and a reliable road car. They also rebuilt the gearbox (discovered to have come from a Triumph 2000!) and, when it disintegrated under the strain of the extra power, the back axle.
Having sorted out some fairly dodgy electrics the car is now AOK and used all year round.
